Definitions of "narrative" and "novel"

A narrative puts froth a story through point-of-view (this can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person narration) with characters and a setting. Narratives are typically unbiased ways of transmitting information.

A novel is a long, fictional, prose narrative (but, how long is "long" we must ask ourselves) that contains setting, characters, and a plot line, complete with a denouement. This work of art should cover some length of time and be structured in a recognizable way, either through paragraphs and chapters or some time line. Novels generally have a political point or attempt to establish an emotional connection.
